The International Museum of the Reformation shows the history of Geneva and the Reformation. As such, it tells the story of both an idea and an ambition. In the 16th century, John Calvin set out to turn Geneva into a model for a new way of living the Christian life, to serve as an example to the world. This momentum gave birth to Geneva as Calvinistic capital and explains its international influence. The Reformation played an important role in the development of European identity and continues to do so today, through its influence on culture and society. Through objects, books, manuscripts, paintings and engravings, the museum tells the story of the movement that spread in part from Geneva during the 16th century.
