Museums and art galleries

The local museum of Oftringen shows how the rural population worked, lived and lived in the past and presents historical backgrounds about the village and its inhabitants.  

The museum’s collection (Schweizer Finanz Museum) of historical securities paved the way for the first international securities museum. The museum (Kunstmuseum) mainly an art collection of works by local artists. It all started with the caracturist  Martin Disteli (1802 – 1844) and gradually expanded with many painters, such as Joachim Senn, Johann Christian Flury, Adrian Kümmerly, Bernhard Studer, Otto Frölicher, Arnold Munzinger, Albert Anker and Frank Buchser.    

The museum (Das Historische Museum) focusses on the history of the town and the industrial and railway and road development of the canton Solothurn in the nineteenth and twentienth centuries. The archaeological museum is housed in the same building.
