Forum Schlossplatz

The Forum discusses and exhibits contemporary themes of arts, society and culture. The castle was actually the first seat of the government of the Napoleonic Republic Helvetia (1798-1803) and as such the first ‘Bundeshaus’ of modern Switzerland.

City Museum Aarau

The museum (Stadtmuseum) in the medieval tower (1236) presents the rich cultural, political and economic history of the city of Aarau. The collection contains objects covering mainly the medieval and early modern periods and a collection of one hundred year press photography. With the collection of several thousand tin figures, the museum also shows typical Aarau craftsmanship.

The museum shows the history, present and future habitat of the Canton Aargau and watercolour paintings by Gottfried Keller (1873-1945).
