The aim of the International Castellio Society (InternationaleCastellio Gesellschaft) in Basel is to bring the life and work of Sébastien Castellion (1515-1563) to public attention.
It is mainly concerned with his ideas on (religious) tolerance. The Society’s activities focus on the historical and religious context and the influence and contemporary significance of Castellio’s work.
The focus is on humanism, the Reformation, and current debates on the tension between religion, tolerance, and violence.
